Marina Bay Sands
Building Integrated resort with hotel, casino, and rooftop pool
Singapore’s waterfront complex pairs a rooftop SkyPark with a casino, ArtScience Museum and a long retail promenade. Tourists come for skyline views, evening light shows and high‑end shopping around Marina Bay.
Marina Bay Sands is a large integrated resort complex on the Marina Bay waterfront in central Singapore, noted for its three hotel towers topped by a continuous rooftop SkyPark. The complex opened in 2010 and was designed by architect Moshe Safdie.
The most prominent feature is the 340-metre SkyPark that spans the three towers and includes an observation area and the resort’s rooftop infinity pool on the 57th floor. The resort also houses about 2,561 hotel rooms, a major shopping mall, a casino, theatres and the lotus-shaped ArtScience Museum.
Developed by Las Vegas Sands and completed in 2010, the project was built as part of Singapore’s Marina Bay redevelopment to create a mixed-use destination combining hospitality, retail, entertainment and convention space. The complex has since become a landmark for Singapore’s skyline and a focal point for large events and light shows.
Situated on the northern edge of Marina Bay in central Singapore, the complex sits adjacent to waterfront promenades and is close to Gardens by the Bay and the Marina Bay Financial District. It is within the downtown core and easily reached from the city centre by public transport.
- SkyPark access: The SkyPark observation deck and the rooftop infinity pool sit on the 57th floor; pool access is restricted to hotel guests while the deck is open to the public for a fee.
- Light show: Spectra, a nightly light and water show from the Event Plaza, offers an un-ticketed viewing experience across the Marina Bay waterfront.
What to See #
- SkyPark: Spans three 55-storey hotel towers and sits at the top of those towers as a single continuous deck about 340 metres long, containing an observation area and the hotel-only rooftop infinity pool.
- Hotel towers: A large integrated resort hotel with about 2,561 guest rooms occupying three towers designed by Moshe Safdie and opened in 2010.
- ArtScience Museum: A lotus-shaped cultural building that hosts rotating exhibitions linking art, design and science programmes.
- The Shoppes: A shopping mall and dining complex attached to the hotel offering international brands, restaurants and canal-front promenades.
- Theatres and casino: Multiple performance venues and a casino that form part of the resort's entertainment and convention facilities.
How to Get to Marina Bay Sands #
Marina Bay Sands sits on Marina Bay in central Singapore and is served directly by Bayfront MRT station (Circle Line and Downtown Line). Use the Bayfront station exits to enter the complex; it’s a 2-5 minute walk from the platforms to the hotel and mall. Numerous city buses also stop nearby and driving is straightforward from the city centre via Bayfront Avenue with on-site parking available.
Tips for Visiting Marina Bay Sands #
- Time a SkyPark visit for around sunset or late evening to see Marina Bay's skyline and the nightly light-and-water shows; prebook a timed SkyPark ticket to skip queues on busy evenings.
- Use Bayfront MRT (Bayfront station) exits that lead directly to The Shoppes and the hotel complex to avoid long surface walks across the promenade and to access shops, restaurants and the SkyPark lifts quickly.
- Remember the famous rooftop infinity pool is for hotel guests only; if you want a high-level hotel experience without booking a room, reserve a table at one of the rooftop bars or the SkyPark observation deck in advance.
- For lighter crowds on the promenade, visit after the 20:00 Spectra show ends; many photo-seekers cluster during the show, so a stroll afterwards gives clearer sightlines of the hotel and Marina Bay.
