Marburg Castle is a historic hilltop castle that dominates the town of Marburg and its old quarter, known for its medieval architecture and commanding position over the Lahn valley. It served as the seat of regional landgraves and remains a focal point of the town’s historic core.
The visible complex includes fortified walls, residential halls and a tower with viewpoints that overlook the medieval streets below. Public areas of the site offer access to courtyards and platforms that frame views across the town and river valley.
The castle originated in the medieval period and was developed and altered over the centuries as the residence and administrative centre of local rulers. It has been conserved as a historic monument and now houses museum displays and spaces used for events.
