Marble Hill House
Museum Georgian riverside villa and restored historic house
On Twickenham’s riverside, Marble Hill House is an 18th‑century Palladian villa with landscaped gardens; visitors tour period rooms, stroll lawns and follow Thames‑side paths.
Marble Hill House is an 18th-century Palladian villa on the north bank of the River Thames in Twickenham, London, built between 1724 and 1729 for Henrietta Howard. It is noted for its preserved early Georgian domestic architecture and riverside park setting.
The house contains restored state rooms furnished and interpreted to illustrate 18th-century domestic life, and guided tours explain its construction and occupants. The adjoining Marble Hill Park is a large public green space with riverside walks, lawns and mature trees that attract both local visitors and tourists.
Commissioned for Henrietta Howard, a courtier associated with the Georgian court, the house is generally attributed to architect Roger Morris with design influences from Henry Herbert, 9th Earl of Pembroke. Over the centuries it passed through private ownership and later preservation efforts converted the estate into a public historic house and park.
The villa and park lie in Twickenham in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, directly beside the River Thames and within suburban West London.
