  • Visit Maoshan in spring or autumn when the weather is mild and temple gardens look best; avoid Chinese public-holidays (Golden Week) when pilgrim crowds and queues swell.
  • Arrive early on a weekday to catch morning temple rituals and quieter trails around the Taoist complexes-midday and late afternoon are the busiest.
