Manuk
Island Volcanic island in Maluku province, sparsely inhabited
A small volcanic island in Indonesia’s Maluku province. Boat travellers and naturalists visit for remote coastal scenery and sea access from nearby island routes.
Manuk is a small, uninhabited volcanic island in Indonesia’s Maluku province, located in the Banda Sea. It forms part of the volcanic arc of the region and is characterised by steep coastlines and minimal vegetation.
The island has no permanent settlements or infrastructure and is visited primarily for scientific or maritime reasons rather than tourism. Its volcanic origin places it within the broader tectonic and volcanic systems of eastern Indonesia.
Because of its isolation and rough shore conditions, access is by private boat only and visits are infrequent and weather-dependent.
Geographically it lies in the central-eastern Indonesian archipelago within Maluku province, remote from major population centres.
- Volcanic island: Uninhabited volcanic island in the Banda Sea under Maluku provincial administration; landings are difficult because of steep shores and lack of facilities.
