Manufacture nationale de Sèvres

The Manufacture nationale de Sèvres is France’s historic state porcelain factory and associated national ceramics museum, established in the 18th century and based in the town of Sèvres on the outskirts of Paris.

The site combines active porcelain workshops with a museum collection displaying decorated wares, painted porcelain, and historic royal commissions. Exhibits cover production techniques and decorative styles from the 18th century onward, and the workshops occasionally run demonstrations and guided tours.

Originally founded at Vincennes in 1740, the manufactory was relocated to Sèvres in 1756 with royal patronage and developed into the principal royal and then national porcelain factory of France. Over the 18th and 19th centuries it supplied court services and set technical and artistic standards for European porcelain.
