How to Get to Mandoli
Mandoli is an east Delhi neighbourhood best reached via Delhi's main transport hubs: Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) for air arrivals and Anand Vihar Terminal / New Delhi for rail. The easiest transfers use the Delhi Metro to Anand Vihar or Shahdara and then a short auto or e-rickshaw for the last mile.
Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL):
Take the Delhi Airport Express Line from the Terminal 3 station to New Delhi station (about 20-25 minutes). The Airport Express single-ride fare is typically around ₹60; from New Delhi you can change to the Delhi Metro Red Line and travel toward Shahdara, then take a short auto or cycle-rickshaw to Mandoli - expect total door-to-door time of roughly 60-90 minutes and a combined cost of around ₹80-150.
Prepaid airport taxi counters and app-based taxis (Ola/Uber) are available at the airport; a meter/prepaid taxi to east/central Delhi (Mandoli) typically costs about ₹600-900 and takes 35-70 minutes depending on traffic. App fares vary with surge pricing but are usually in a similar range.
Train:
Anand Vihar Terminal (ANVT) is the main long-distance rail terminal serving east Delhi and is the closest major railway station to Mandoli; other major stations in the city are New Delhi (NDLS) and Old Delhi (DLI). From Anand Vihar you can walk to Anand Vihar Metro/ISBT and use the metro plus an auto or e-rickshaw for the last mile - expect 15-35 minutes from ANVT to Mandoli and local auto fares of roughly ₹50-150.
Bus:
Anand Vihar ISBT is the main inter-state bus terminal in the east and is well served by DTC/cluster buses and interstate coaches. Within Delhi, non-AC DTC buses typically cost about ₹10-25 per trip and AC buses about ₹30-100 depending on distance; travel times to Mandoli vary (20-60 minutes) with traffic and route.
How to Get Around Mandoli
Mandoli is most easily navigated by combining the Delhi Metro for longer stretches with autos or e-rickshaws for the last mile. For budget travel use DTC buses and cycle rickshaws; for speed and comfort use app taxis or prepaid airport taxis when arriving with luggage.
- Delhi Metro (₹10-50) - The metro is the most reliable way to get into east Delhi. Use the Airport Express to New Delhi and change to the Red Line toward Shahdara, or arrive at Anand Vihar Metro (Blue/Violet lines) for direct access to east Delhi. Trains are frequent during the day; expect clean, fast travel but allow time for transfers and station walking if you have luggage.
- Anand Vihar Terminal (trains) - Anand Vihar Terminal handles many long-distance trains arriving into east Delhi and links directly with Anand Vihar Metro and the ISBT. From the terminal you can reach Mandoli by metro + auto or a direct autorickshaw/taxi; last-mile time is typically 15-35 minutes. It's a practical arrival point if your train terminates there.
- DTC & Intercity buses (₹10-100) - Anand Vihar ISBT and surrounding bus stops serve many intra-city and interstate routes. Non-AC city buses are the cheapest option (roughly ₹10-25) while AC and interstate coaches cost more. Buses can be slow in peak traffic but are useful for budget travel and direct routes that avoid metro transfers.
- Auto-rickshaws (₹30-150) - Auto-rickshaws are the primary last-mile transport around Mandoli for short hops from metro stations or bus stops. Fares typically range from about ₹30 for very short trips up to ₹150 for longer intra-district rides; always agree a price or insist on the meter where possible. Autos are quick for navigating local streets where taxis are slower.
- App taxis (Ola/Uber) & prepaid airport taxis (₹150-900) - Ola and Uber operate across Delhi and are convenient for door-to-door trips, especially with luggage or at night. Expect fares from the airport to Mandoli in the ₹600-900 range (variable with surge) and intra-city rides typically ₹150-500 depending on distance. Prepaid airport taxis are a reliable alternative at fixed counters in the arrivals area.
- Cycle rickshaws & e-rickshaws (₹10-50) - Cycle rickshaws and battery-powered e-rickshaws handle very short local trips inside neighbourhoods and market areas around Mandoli. Fares are cheap (often ₹10-50) and they are handy for narrow lanes the larger vehicles can't enter. Expect them to be slow but useful for last 1-2 km hops.
- Walking - Walking is practical only for short distances within the neighbourhood - markets, local shops and nearby streets are walkable. Pavements can be uneven and traffic heavy on main roads, so take care and avoid walking long stretches after dark.
