The Malta Maritime Museum is a museum of maritime history located in Birgu (Vittoriosa) on Malta’s Grand Harbour. It occupies a large former Royal Naval Bakery building that sits on the waterfront.

Exhibition halls present ship models, navigational instruments, anchors, paintings and other artifacts tracing Malta’s seafaring activities and naval presence. Displays cover commercial shipping, fishing, and naval service with material laid out across multiple rooms and levels.

The bakery building was constructed for naval service in the 19th century and later repurposed to house the island’s maritime collections. Over time the site was converted from naval utility to public museum to preserve and interpret the material history of Malta’s ports and seafarers.

The museum sits on the Vittoriosa waterfront close to Fort St. Angelo and the inner reaches of the Grand Harbour, within easy reach by road or by short ferry from Valletta.

  • Waterfront location: Located on the Vittoriosa waterfront facing the Grand Harbour, making it easy to combine with visits to nearby forts and waterfront promenades.
  • Collections: Collections include extensive model ships and naval artifacts that illustrate Malta's long maritime history, suitable for families and maritime enthusiasts.
