Malmö Castle

Malmö Castle (Malmöhus) is a Renaissance-era fortress in Malmö, Skåne County, with a core built in the 16th century. It is regarded as one of Sweden’s oldest surviving Renaissance castles.

The site contains museum galleries that cover local history, natural history and technology, displayed within the castle buildings and adjacent structures. The moat and ramparts remain visible and are part of the visitor circuit.

The castle was constructed under the Danish crown during the 1500s when Scania belonged to Denmark and later became Swedish territory following the 17th century. Over time it has been adapted from a defensive fortress to administrative and museum use.

Malmö Castle stands at the inner harbour area on the western edge of Malmö’s city centre, by the waterfront and within easy walking distance of central Malmö.
