How to Get to Malango
Malango is reached via Honiara (Henderson) on Guadalcanal - Henderson Field (HIR) is the main international gateway. There is no rail service; most onward travel is by road minibuses, taxis or by sea for inter-island links.
Honiara International / Henderson Field (HIR): The main gateway for Guadalcanal. From Honiara airport into Honiara town (the nearest urban centre to Malango) taxis and hotel transfers are the usual options; expect a roughly 20-30 minute drive. Taxi fares vary-ask drivers for the flat rate before boarding; some hotels offer transfers for a fixed fee.
Munda Airport (MUA): Munda serves New Georgia and other Western Province islands and is useful if you are island-hopping before/after visiting Guadalcanal. From Munda you will need a local boat or inter-island flight connection to reach Guadalcanal; schedules and prices change frequently, so book through a local operator.
Bus / Minibus / Route taxi: There is no national rail network; road minibuses (often called route taxis or PMVs) connect Honiara with villages along Guadalcanal. Services are informal-travel times depend on stops and road conditions; ask locally for current fares.
Boat / Ferry: Inter-island travel is primarily by ferry or private boat. There are no regular, nationwide high-speed ferries; routes, times and prices are published locally and change seasonally, so arrange onward travel through a tour operator or the local port.
