The Malá Strana Bridge Tower is the Gothic tower that stands at the Lesser Town (Malá Strana) end of Prague’s Charles Bridge. It dates to the late 15th century and served as a fortified gateway and part of the medieval bridge fortifications.
The tower is a popular place to view the bridge and the Vltava River corridor; its platform and windows frame views of Prague Castle, the river and the bridges downstream. The tower’s Gothic architecture and stonework are key visual elements of the bridge ensemble.
Built as part of the city’s medieval defenses, the tower protected the Lesser Town approach to the bridge and controlled access across the river. It has been maintained and conserved as part of the historic bridge complex.
The tower stands directly on the Malá Strana side of the Charles Bridge in central Prague, immediately adjacent to the bridge entrance and overlooking the Vltava.

The Malá Strana Bridge Tower sits at the western (Malá Strana) end of the Charles Bridge in central Prague. Take metro Line A to Malostranská station (or tram lines that serve Malostranské náměstí) and walk about 5-8 minutes down to the bridge; from Prague Main Railway Station you can take tram or metro to the same stop. The tower is in the pedestrianised bridge area, so expect only a short walk from the nearest public-transport stop.

- Visit at sunrise to photograph Charles Bridge and the tower with minimal crowds - by midmorning the bridge becomes very congested.
- Approach the tower from the Malá Strana (Lesser Town) side and climb early; the stairways inside the tower are narrow so earlier visits avoid lines and make the view from the top more pleasant.
- Don't just cross the bridge - pause to inspect the tower's exterior details and then explore the quieter side streets on the Malá Strana end (Kampa and nearby lanes) where many visitors don't linger.
