How to Get to Makokou
Arrivals to Gabon generally come through Libreville (LBV); Makokou is best reached by short regional flight when available (MKU) or by multi‑hour road trips. For visits to nearby national parks, plan organised transfers in advance.
Libreville Léon-M’ba International Airport (LBV): Libreville is the main international entry point for Makokou travellers; onward travel is usually by road or by limited domestic flights.
Makokou Airport (MKU): Makokou has a small regional airport used by charters and occasional scheduled services. From MKU it’s a short taxi ride to the town centre (typically minutes); fares are paid in CFA francs and should be agreed on arrival.
Train: There is no regular passenger rail service suitable for reaching Makokou; overland transport is the norm.
Bus / Road: Shared minibuses and private cars are the main public links; journeys inland can be long and road quality varies. For access to Lopé and Ivindo reserves, organised transfers or 4x4 hires are recommended.
