Makogai is an island in Fiji’s Eastern Division noted for its historical role as a regional leprosy settlement. The settlement was established in 1911 and operated during the first half of the 20th century.
The island is chiefly known for the former leprosarium that received patients from across the Pacific; the facility and associated cemetery remain central to its historical identity. There is limited public information about current visitor facilities.
