Makli Necropolis

Makli Necropolis is a vast funerary complex on the plains near Thatta in Sindh, Pakistan, notable for its dense concentration of tombs and mausoleums from roughly the 14th to the 18th centuries. The site displays a wide range of funerary architecture, decorative carving and tilework reflecting regional dynasties.

Visitors encounter groups of elaborate monuments that vary in scale from modest graves to large royal mausoleums, many decorated with carved stone screens, calligraphy and glazed tiles. The site’s scale and variety are the principal attractions for those studying South Asian funerary architecture.
