Magnesia on the Maeander is an ancient Greek city situated on the Maeander (Menderes) river plain in modern Aydın Province, western Turkey. The archaeological site preserves remains from the Hellenistic and Roman periods, including a theatre, agora and civic buildings.
The city stands on the historic Maeander floodplain, which shaped its economy and communications in antiquity, and its ruins document a typical classical urban layout with public spaces and defensive elements. Excavated features visible on-site include parts of the theatre, marketplace foundations and sections of city walls.
The site lies inland from the Aegean coast in the lower Menderes valley, within a landscape of agricultural plains and river channels that connected the city to other settlements in classical Anatolia.
