The Magic Fountain of Montjuïc (Font Màgica) is a large ornamental fountain complex at the base of Montjuïc hill in Barcelona, created for the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition. It is known for choreographed water, light and music displays.
The installation performs timed shows that combine illuminated water jets with recorded music, organised for evening audiences in the plaza below the Palau Nacional. The fountain occupies the central axis between Plaça d’Espanya and the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (MNAC).
The fountain was designed and constructed in 1929 by engineer Carles Buïgas for the International Exposition and was later refurbished in the late 20th century to modernise its lighting and pumping systems, including works ahead of the 1992 Olympic period.
It sits on the lower slopes of Montjuïc between Plaça d’Espanya and the MNAC, forming a central visual axis on Avinguda Maria Cristina in Barcelona.
