The Maghen Abraham Synagogue is a historic Jewish house of worship in Beirut, Lebanon, that served the city’s Jewish community through the early 20th century. It was one of Beirut’s principal synagogues prior to the civil war.
The synagogue was built in the early 20th century and functioned as a community and religious centre for Beirut’s Jews until the outbreak of the Lebanese Civil War, when it was heavily damaged and fell into disuse. Since the conflict there have been intermittent restoration discussions and limited works to stabilise the fabric, but the community that once used it dispersed.
The synagogue stands in central Beirut in the area historically known as Wadi Abu Jamil, the city’s traditional Jewish quarter, close to central commercial districts.
