Lumbarda Travel Guide
City Village on Korčula island with vineyards and beaches
On eastern Korčula, Lumbarda lures beachgoers to sandy coves, windsurfers to open bays, and wine lovers to family vineyards producing Grk; expect stone cottages, afternoon swims and tavern dinners of grilled fish and olive oil.
Why Visit Lumbarda? #
On the eastern tip of Korčula island, Lumbarda draws visitors with sandy beaches like Pržina, vineyards that produce the island’s signature Pošip wine, and a laid-back Adriatic character. Clear waters and windsurfing conditions attract active travelers, while proximity to Korčula Old Town offers Venetian-era streets and cultural events. The combination of beach days, wine tasting and local olive oil makes it feel more Mediterranean than mainland Croatia.

How to Get to Lumbarda
Lumbarda sits on the east end of Korčula island - the island is reached by ferry/catamaran from Dubrovnik or Split, with short local bus or taxi rides from Korčula town to Lumbarda. In summer there are frequent high‑speed services; options are reduced in low season.
Dubrovnik Airport (DBV): Dubrovnik is the closest major airport to Korčula. From Dubrovnik you can reach Korčula town by catamaran or ferry (seasonal high‑speed catamarans and car ferries operate). Typical journey times: 2-3 hours by catamaran/ferry depending on route; fares usually range €20-40 for passenger catamarans (prices vary by operator and season). From Korčula town take a local taxi or bus to Lumbarda (10-15 minutes).
Split Airport (SPU): Split is another common gateway. In summer there are direct catamarans from Split to Korčula (2.5-4 hours depending on vessel), with fares commonly €20-40. From Korčula harbour, Lumbarda is a short taxi or bus ride (10-20 minutes, small local fares).
Train: There are no direct train services to Korčula island - the rail network ends on the mainland (Split, Dubrovnik area has no rail). Use rail to reach Split or the Croatian rail hub and then continue by bus + ferry.
Bus & Ferry: Regular bus connections link Dubrovnik and Split airports to their ports; operators coordinate with catamaran/ferry services (Kapetan Luka, Jadrolinija and others). Bus to ferry transfers typically take 20-60 minutes depending on which port you use; combined bus+ferry tickets are often available in summer.
How to Get Around Lumbarda #
Lumbarda is compact and very walkable-many beaches, vineyards and taverns are within easy walking distance. The village is served by local buses that connect to Korčula town (where ferries to the mainland run), and taxis operate seasonally. Scooter and bicycle rentals are common in summer for exploring the coast and nearby villages. Practical tips: if you plan to explore the island, renting a scooter or car gives the most flexibility; bike rentals are cheaper and fine for short distances. Ferry and bus timetables change seasonally, so check schedules in advance.
