Lok Virsa Museum (the National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage) is a museum and cultural institute in Islamabad, Pakistan. It was established in 1974 to preserve and promote Pakistan’s folk and traditional heritage.
The museum presents collections of regional crafts, traditional textiles, musical instruments and vernacular costumes representing Pakistan’s provinces and ethnic groups. Exhibitions include audio-visual displays and spaces used for live folk performances and craft demonstrations.
Set up by the Government of Pakistan as a national folklife institute, it developed into a public museum with archives, research functions and outreach programs supporting traditional artisans. Over time permanent galleries and a recorded archive of folk music and oral traditions were added.
The complex is located in the Shakarparian area of Islamabad, adjacent to the Pakistan Monument and Shakarparian Park, within easy driving distance of the city centre.
