The Logone River is a major river in Central Africa that flows through Chad and forms parts of the international boundary with Cameroon before joining the Chari River. The Chari-Logone system drains into Lake Chad.

The river supports local fishing, seasonal floodplain agriculture and riverside communities along its course. Water levels are highly seasonal, with higher flows during the rainy season and lower flows in the dry season.

The Logone’s course and its confluence with the Chari are key to the hydrology of the Lake Chad basin and to livelihoods across the surrounding floodplains. The river has long been an axis for settlement and transport in the region.

Geographically the Logone runs through the Far North Region of Cameroon and southern Chad, eventually contributing its waters to Lake Chad via the Chari River.

• Chari-Logone system: Forms a major part of the Chari-Logone river system, flowing into the Chari before the combined rivers enter Lake Chad and supporting regional fisheries and irrigation.
• Border river: Acts as an international boundary in places, notably forming stretches of the border between Cameroon and Chad.

• Base yourself in the regional towns near the river (for example, Kousséri on the Cameroon side) and arrange boat trips or market visits through local guides who know seasonal water levels and crossing points.
• Visit in the dry season (roughly November-April) when riverbanks and settlements are most accessible and overland access is easier; in the wet season some channels and roads become difficult or impassable.
• Because the Logone runs along an international border and through remote areas, always check current travel advisories and travel with a locally registered guide or operator rather than attempting independent river travel.
