Main image

Lofotodden National Park is a protected area on the Lofoten archipelago in Nordland, Norway, covering coastal mountains and shoreline. The park was established to preserve the archipelago’s rugged coastal landscape and its seabird and marine habitats.

The park offers exposed coastal mountains, sheltered coves and a long, indented shoreline that attract hikers and nature visitors. Trails and marked routes cross rocky ridges and beaches; several short day hikes and multi-kilometre coastal walks are used to access viewpoints and wildlife areas.

The national park was designated by Norwegian authorities in 2018 to conserve natural and cultural values. Management aims to balance outdoor recreation with preservation of seabird colonies, grazing areas and cultural traces of fishing communities.

Lofotodden sits on the western side of the Lofoten island group in Nordland county, encompassing parts of the archipelago’s coastal islands and peninsulas. The park lies within the Arctic Circle and is reached from nearby Lofoten towns and ferry connections along the E10 road.

  • Protection status: Created by the Norwegian government to protect coastal mountain habitat and cultural landscapes.
  • Creation date: Established in 2018.
