The glen and loch were shaped by glacial action and contain remnants of ancient Scots pine. Conservation and woodland restoration work has been carried out in the area during the 20th and 21st centuries.

The loch sits within Glen Affric in the Highland council area and lies inside the Glen Affric National Nature Reserve; access is by rural roads and footpaths into the glen west of Inverness.

  • Caledonian pinewood: Remnants of ancient Scots pine persist, with ongoing conservation and replanting in the surrounding forest.
