Lobéké National Park is a protected area of lowland tropical rainforest in Cameroon’s East Region, forming part of the Congo Basin forest complex. The park is important for large forest mammals and intact riverine forest habitat.

The landscape is dense rainforest interlaced with slow-flowing rivers and swamps; wildlife includes forest elephants, western lowland gorillas and chimpanzees along with diverse birdlife. Visitor infrastructure is limited, so most trips focus on guided wildlife tracking, river travel and research-oriented stays rather than casual tourism.

The area has been set aside by Cameroonian authorities to conserve intact Congo Basin forest and its fauna and has been managed in cooperation with conservation organizations and neighbouring protected areas. It forms part of transboundary conservation efforts in the Sangha region.

The park lies in southeastern Cameroon near the borders with the Central African Republic and the Republic of the Congo, within the Congo Basin lowland rainforests of the East Region.

  • Access and logistics: Visits are usually arranged through specialist tour operators or research programs; accommodation and facilities inside the park are limited and guided travel is recommended.
