Llangorse Lake

Llangorse Lake is the largest natural lake in southern Wales, located in Powys within the Brecon Beacons (Bannau Brycheiniog) area. The lake is a shallow freshwater body known for its wildlife, recreational use and archaeological interest.

The lake supports a sailing club and watersports, walking routes around the shoreline and significant birdlife, including reedbeds and wetland species. A lakeside country park and visitor facilities serve recreational and wildlife-watching visitors.

Archaeological work has identified a crannog or artificial island in the lake with remains dating to the Iron Age and early medieval periods; finds from the site have shed light on local settlement and craft activity across centuries.
