Little Inagua

Island Largest uninhabited Bahamian island, protected wildlife refuge

Little Inagua is The Bahamas’ largest uninhabited island and national park, known for remote beaches, seabird colonies and protected iguana and sea turtle habitat.

Main image

Little Inagua is an uninhabited island in the Inagua District of the Bahamas, lying immediately off the coast of Great Inagua. The island is largely undeveloped and is noted for its undisturbed coastal habitat.

Visitors reach the island by private boat for wildlife observation, remote beaches and coastal scenery. The shoreline includes sand flats and dunes that serve as nesting areas for seabirds and sea turtles, and there are no built visitor facilities.

Little Inagua has remained sparsely used by people and has traditionally been important for marine and bird life rather than settlement. Parts of the island and surrounding marine areas are managed for conservation by Bahamian authorities.

The island lies just off Great Inagua in the southern Bahamas and is part of the Inagua island group. It is remote from major population centres and visited mainly by researchers and small-boat expeditions.

  • Access and facilities: No public infrastructure or services are available on the island; visits require private boat charter and permit arrangements where protected habitats are present.
  • Wildlife: Important nesting beaches for seabirds and sea turtles; much of the island is left in a natural state to protect breeding colonies.

What to See #

  • Beaches and sand flats: Fringing sand flats and beaches that provide nesting habitat for seabirds and marine turtles and form the main accessible shoreline for landing by small boats.
  • Interior flats and dunes: A central low-lying interior of salt flats and dunes that remains largely undisturbed and supports coastal bird colonies.
