How to Get to Little Bernera #
Access is by private boat from Great Bernera or Lewis. The nearest vehicle ferry to the region is the Stornoway-Tarbert or local crossings; small craft operators on Lewis can arrange landings. There are no scheduled services to the islet.
Tips for Visiting Little Bernera #
- If landing by dinghy, aim for the sheltered eastern shore; the western side is rockier and exposed.
- Respect the birdlife-Little Bernera is home to nesting sea birds; landing is best outside peak nesting season (May-July).
- Tide awareness is crucial; tidal streams can be deceptively strong in the Sound of Harris.
