Lilla Karlsö Island

Lilla Karlsö is a small protected island and nature reserve off the west coast of Gotland, Sweden, known for its bird colonies and specialized coastal flora. The island is a conservation area and a popular day-trip destination in the summer season.

Cliffs and rocky shorelines host large seabird colonies during the breeding season, and the island supports a range of coastal plants uncommon on the Gotland mainland. Guided boats from Klintehamn or other Gotland ports provide visitor access during the permitted season.

Historically used for grazing and limited human activity, the island has been managed for nature conservation for decades to protect bird nesting sites and plant communities. Human access is controlled to minimise disturbance.

Situated off the west coast of Gotland, the island is reached by short boat trips from the Gotland shoreline and lies within Sweden’s Baltic island landscape.
