How to Get to Lembang
Lembang is reached via Bandung's transport hubs - Husein Sastranegara Airport (BDO) and Stasiun Bandung are the main gateways. Many visitors also use Kertajati Airport (KJT) with a shuttle to Bandung and then continue north to Lembang.
Husein Sastranegara International Airport (BDO): Husein is the closest airport to Lembang, located in Bandung city. From Husein you can take a taxi or ride-hailing car to Lembang (about 30-45 minutes depending on traffic); expect roughly 60,000-150,000 IDR for a GoCar/GrabCar and about 120,000-250,000 IDR for a metered taxi depending on pickup point and luggage. A motorcycle ride-hail (Gojek/GrabBike) is a faster, cheaper option for solo travellers - typically 25,000-60,000 IDR and about 30-40 minutes.
Kertajati International Airport (KJT): Kertajati (Majalengka) is farther away but serves many domestic and some international flights. DAMRI shuttle buses run from Kertajati to Bandung (generally 1.5-2 hours, fare around 75,000-100,000 IDR); from Bandung you then take a taxi or ride-hailing service to Lembang (another 30-45 minutes, ~60,000-200,000 IDR). Direct taxi transfers from Kertajati to Lembang are possible but long and expensive (often several hundred thousand IDR and 2+ hours).
Train: Trains from Jakarta and other cities arrive at Stasiun Bandung (Bandung Station). The Argo Parahyangan service from Jakarta takes about 3 hours (fares vary widely by class - from roughly 50,000 IDR economy up to a few hundred thousand for executive/AC classes). From Bandung Station it’s a 30-45 minute ride to Lembang by ride-hailing or taxi (see fares above); cheap but indirect public minivans/angkot require transfers.
Bus: Long-distance buses and intercity services use terminals such as Leuwi Panjang (Leuwipanjang) and other Bandung terminals. From Jakarta buses typically take 3-4 hours with ticket prices commonly in the 60,000-150,000 IDR range depending on operator and class. From the bus terminals you can continue to Lembang by taxi or ride-hail (30-60 minutes, prices as above) or by combining local angkot services for a lower-cost but slower trip.
How to Get Around Lembang
Lembang is easiest to navigate by ride-hailing or a rented motorbike - both give fast, flexible access to attractions along narrow rural roads. Public angkot is the cheapest but can be slow and indirect; if you plan multiple day trips, consider hiring a car and driver.
- Angkot (public minivan) (4,000-15,000 IDR) - Angkot (angkutan kota) and minibusses serve local routes around Bandung and parts of Lembang. They are very cheap and useful for short hops, but routes are informal and often require transfers; drivers might drop you off at junctions rather than door-to-door. Useful if you want the lowest-cost option and don't mind flexible schedules.
- Ride-hailing (Gojek & Grab) (10,000-80,000 IDR) - Gojek and Grab are the most convenient ways to get around Lembang and the surrounding attractions - choose GO-CAR/GrabCar for comfort or GO-RIDE/GrabBike for quick, cheap trips. Prices fluctuate by demand but short trips within Lembang are usually inexpensive and apps make meeting points and payments simple. Expect faster door-to-door travel and easier access to tourist sites than with angkot.
- Taxi (Bluebird & local taxis) (40,000-200,000 IDR) - Bluebird and other licensed taxis are metered and more predictable than private drivers; they are a good option for airport pickups or when you need reliable billing. Taxis cost more than ride-hailing bikes and angkot but are generally safer for luggage or nighttime travel. Use the Bluebird app where available to avoid haggling.
- Car rental / Private driver (300,000-600,000 IDR/day) - Renting a car (self-drive) or hiring a private driver is ideal for full-day trips (Tangkuban Perahu, Dusun Bambu, Floating Market) because many attractions are spread out. Daily rental rates vary and usually don't include fuel; a private driver can simplify logistics and parking. Expect to pay more than public transport but gain flexibility and time-savings.
- Motorbike rental (60,000-150,000 IDR/day) - Scooter rentals are common and the easiest way to explore local sights and narrow roads around Lembang; parking is easier and fuel consumption is low. Helmets are provided but check the bike's condition and bring ID; avoid riding in heavy rain or thick traffic if you're not experienced. This is the cheapest flexible option for solo travellers or couples.
- Walking - Walking is pleasant around central Lembang (cafés, markets, viewpoints) and within individual attractions, but many must-see sites are spread out and not walkable from one another. Use walking for short local explorations and pair it with ride-hailing or a rented scooter for longer hops.
