Laxenburg castles are a palace complex and landscaped park in the town of Laxenburg, Lower Austria, historically used as a summer residence by the Habsburgs. The site comprises palace buildings, an artificial lake with an island castle and an extensive English-style landscape park.

The most immediately visible feature is the island castle known as the Franzensburg, set on the park’s main lake, along with the older palace buildings and formal approaches. The park contains walking paths, water features and historic garden elements that are open to the public and used for leisure and cultural events.

The complex was developed over several centuries by the Habsburg family as an imperial retreat and was altered and expanded in different phases, with notable 18th- and 19th-century building campaigns shaping its current appearance. The Franzensburg island castle was constructed in the early 19th century and reflects a historicist, neo-Gothic style popular at that time.

Laxenburg lies just south of Vienna in Lower Austria, within easy driving distance of the city centre and close to the town of Mödling; the park sits on low-lying ground with landscaped lakes and wooded sections forming the local landscape.

From Vienna, take regional rail (Regionalzug) or S‑bahn connections toward Mödling/Laxenburg from Wien Hauptbahnhof or Meidling; the journey is roughly 20-30 minutes by train followed by a short walk to the park. By car, follow the A2 south and take the Laxenburg exit.

• Take the pedestrian route through the park to arrive at Franzensburg-the walk gives views no bus can replicate.
• If visiting in summer, combine the castles with a boat ride on the castle lake; the island castle (Franzensburg) is best seen from the water.
