Lake Syamozero is a freshwater lake in the Republic of Karelia in northwestern Russia. It is one of many sizeable lakes in the Karelian landscape and is set within forested surroundings.
Calm waters and wooded shorelines make the lake suitable for small-boat fishing, canoeing and lakeside camping; the area is used seasonally by local anglers. Facilities are limited compared with larger tourist lakes, so visits are typically self-supported and regional in scale.
The lake is a natural body of water typical of the Karelian lake district, formed by post-glacial processes and long used by local communities for fishing and transport. There are no widely known ancient constructions tied to the site.
Geographically the lake sits in the interior of the Republic of Karelia, within Medvezhyegorsky district of northwestern Russia. The landscape around it is dominated by boreal forest and a network of rivers and other lakes.
