Lake Pyasino
Lake Large Arctic freshwater lake in Krasnoyarsk Krai
An Arctic lake in Krasnoyarsk Krai fed by the Pyasina River system, set amid tundra and boreal landscapes. Remote access limits visitors, who come for scientific work and northern fisheries.
Lake Pyasino is a freshwater lake in Krasnoyarsk Krai in northern Russia, located north of the Arctic Circle. It lies within the basin of rivers that discharge to the Kara Sea.
The lake is remote and sparsely settled; activities in the area are limited and include seasonal fishing and scientific observations related to northern ecosystems and climate. Access is often seasonal and depends on winter ice or long supply routes.
Hydrologically it is connected to the Pyasina River system, which carries waters from the lake toward the Arctic Ocean. The lake and surrounding landscape reflect typical high-latitude conditions with tundra and sparse forest.
Geographically the lake is in northern Krasnoyarsk Krai, well inside the Arctic Circle, in a sparsely populated part of northern Siberia.
- Drainage: The lake is drained by the Pyasina River, which flows northward to the Kara Sea, linking it into the Arctic river system.
Tips for Visiting Lake Pyasino #
- Plan for a brief summer window (midsummer) when the lake is ice-free and navigation is feasible; outside that period the lake is frozen or only seasonally accessible.
- Access is remote: expect to reach the lake by river boat along the Pyasina system or as part of an organized expedition out of regional towns - there are effectively no tourist facilities on-site.
- Coordinate logistics with a local operator in Krasnoyarsk Krai and prepare for self-sufficiency (fuel, spares, satellite or long-range comms); weather and river conditions determine whether overland or river approaches are possible.
Best Time to Visit Lake Pyasino #
Visit in the brief summer (chiefly July-August) when the lake is most likely to be ice‑free and accessible.
