The lake is reached by road: Takengon is the local hub and is served by regional intercity buses and minibuses from other Aceh towns; from Takengon town centre the lake shore is a short walk (a few minutes) to the nearest viewpoints and hotels.
If you are driving, use the main regional roads into Central Aceh to Takengon; once in Takengon follow local signs to the lakeside areas (most lakeside accommodations and viewpoints are a short drive or walk from the town centre).
