Lake Laut Tawar sits beside the town of Takengon in the Gayo highlands of Aceh. The lake is reached by road: Takengon is the local hub and is served by regional intercity buses and minibuses from other Aceh towns; from Takengon town centre the lake shore is a short walk (a few minutes) to the nearest viewpoints and hotels.
