Lake Kari is a small high-altitude lake on the slopes of Mount Aragats in Aragatsotn Province, Armenia. It is notable for its alpine setting and proximity to scientific and meteorological stations on the mountain.

A compact alpine lake surrounded by volcanic rock and mountain tundra, popular with hikers and mountain climbers as a rest point or campsite on routes up Aragats. The lake’s setting is stark and open, with limited facilities and rapid weather changes typical of high elevations.

Formed in a high volcanic environment and fed primarily by snowmelt, the lake has long been part of local mountain use and modern mountaineering routes. Scientific and observatory installations on Aragats are located in the same high-mountain zone.

The lake sits on the slopes of Mount Aragats at roughly 3,200 metres above sea level, a short distance from the Aragats summit area and the nearby observatory installations. It is reached by mountain tracks from lower settlements in Aragatsotn Province.

  • Base for climbing: Sits at high elevation and is often used as a base for ascents of Mount Aragats and nearby alpine routes.
