Lake Ikeda is a caldera lake in Kagoshima Prefecture on the island of Kyushu, Japan. It is a volcanic-origin lake known locally for its depth and a longstanding lake-monster legend.
The shoreline offers observation points and short walking routes for visitors and local tourism signage references the legend of a lake creature called “Issie”. The lake’s geological origin is volcanic and it occupies a basin formed by past volcanic activity.
The lake is located in Kagoshima Prefecture on Kyushu and is accessed from nearby towns and roads within the prefecture.

By car it is typically about a 40-60 minute drive from Kagoshima depending on traffic and exact start point, using the regional/prefectural roads that serve the Ibusuki area; local public-transport connections require onward taxi or local bus from the nearest stations.
