Lake Der-Chantecoq (Lac du Der-Chantecoq) is a large artificial reservoir in the Grand Est region of northeastern France, created as a flood-control and water-storage basin. It covers a substantial area and is one of the biggest man-made lakes in the country.
The lake is visited for sailing, windsurfing, beaches and especially birdwatching; large numbers of migratory cranes and other waterbirds use the reservoir and surrounding marshes in late autumn and winter. Several observation points and seasonal visitor facilities support wildlife viewing.
Construction of the reservoir took place in the late 1960s and early 1970s to regulate flows on the Marne and protect downstream population centres from floods. Creation of the lake transformed low-lying farmland and marsh into a managed storage basin.
The reservoir lies inland in the Champagne-Ardenne area of Grand Est, surrounded by low agricultural land and small villages. It is accessed by road from nearby towns and serves as a regional recreation and conservation site.
