Lake Bustakh
Lake Large Arctic lake in Sakha Republic
A tundra lake in the Sakha Republic inside the Arctic Circle, Lake Bustakh interests anglers, field researchers and adventurous travelers seeking vast permafrost landscapes and seasonal bird migrations.
Lake Bustakh is a freshwater lake in the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) in northeastern Russia. It is located within the Arctic and subarctic zone of the region.
The lake lies in a sparsely populated landscape of tundra and boreal wetlands; it is visited mainly for local fishing and subsistence activities rather than mass tourism. Seasonal access and ice cover determine when the lake is navigable or fished.
There are no widely recorded transformational engineering works associated with the lake; its history is that of a natural water body within Yakutia shaped by regional hydrology and climate. Local indigenous and rural communities have long used the area for fishing.
Geographically the lake is in the Sakha Republic on the Russian Arctic mainland, within a landscape of tundra and permafrost typical of the Far North.
