Laja Lake
Lake Chilean lake nestled in Biobío's volcanic landscape
Andean lake in Chile’s Biobío region used for boating and fishing; visited for access to nearby mountain scenery, local recreation and the downstream Laja waterfalls.
Laja Lake is a freshwater lake in Chile’s Biobío Region that feeds the Laja River and is connected hydrologically to the well-known Salto del Laja waterfalls downstream. It is part of the river system that drains toward the Biobío basin.
The lake and its river outlet provide local recreational opportunities such as sightseeing at the falls and shoreline access in some locations. The most visited attraction associated with the lake is the series of cascades where the river drops over volcanic rock.
The lake occupies a basin in the foothills of the Chilean Central Valley and is tied to the region’s river network rather than being an isolated wetland. Its waters and downstream falls have long been an orientation point for local communities and visitors.
