Laguna de Leche is a freshwater lagoon in Ciego de Ávila Province, Cuba. It is the largest natural freshwater lake in the country and is named for the milky appearance of its water caused by suspended limestone particles.
The lake offers shallow, pale waters, shoreline wetlands and stands of aquatic vegetation that attract waterbirds and support local fishing and small-boat trips. Recreational uses are primarily local and include birdwatching and informal boat excursions around the lagoon.
The body of water is a natural karst-influenced lagoon whose pale colour derives from limestone sediments suspended in the water column. The lake has long been used by nearby communities for fishing and freshwater supply.
