Laguna de la Restinga is a coastal mangrove lagoon on Isla Margarita in the state of Nueva Esparta, Venezuela. It is a protected mangrove-lined lagoon separated from the Caribbean Sea by a sandbar and tidal channels.
Small, shallow channels lined with red mangrove trees form the lagoon’s main attractions and are navigable by guided pirogues and small motorboats. Birdwatching, short boat trips, and observing coastal fish and crustacean habitats are the common activities.
The area has long been used by local fishers and communities for subsistence fishing and transport. It is protected under Venezuela’s system of natural areas, preserving the mangrove ecosystem and associated fisheries.
The lagoon lies on the southern shore of Isla Margarita in northeastern Venezuela’s Caribbean waters, accessible from the nearby village of La Restinga on Margarita Island.
