Lago di Ledro

Lago di Ledro is an alpine lake in the Ledro Valley of Trentino in northern Italy, located west of the larger Lake Garda. The surrounding valley contains prehistoric pile-dwelling remains that are part of the UNESCO World Heritage “Prehistoric Pile Dwellings around the Alps.”

The lake offers clear water, small public beaches and a network of walking and cycling trails that link the lakeside villages. The on-site Museo delle Palafitte presents finds from the pile-dwelling sites and explains the prehistoric lakeshore settlements, which are a principal cultural attraction.

Human occupation around the lake dates back to prehistoric times as demonstrated by pile-dwelling archaeological remains. Over centuries the valley developed as an agricultural and forestry area and more recently as a destination for outdoor recreation.

The lake sits in the Ledro Valley in Trentino, in the southern Alps of northern Italy, west of Lake Garda and surrounded by forested slopes and mountain pastures. Lakeside villages provide the main access points for visitors.

• Lakeside villages: Pieve di Ledro and Molina di Ledro are the main lakeside villages providing boat launches, beaches and visitor services on the southeast and southwest shores respectively.
