Labadee

Labadee is a privately operated resort enclave on Haiti’s northern coast, leased and managed for cruise ship calls as a dedicated destination for cruise passengers. It is centred on sheltered bays and beach coves with purpose-built visitor facilities.

The site offers sandy beaches, water-based activities, shaded picnic areas and local craft stalls, along with a private pier used by cruise ships for embarkation and disembarkation. A number of excursion-style activities are organised on site, including a zipline over a bay.

The area was developed in the late 20th century to serve cruise tourism and operates under arrangements that limit general public access; facilities and services are geared to short-stay visitors arriving with cruise lines.

Labadee is located on Haiti’s north coast on a peninsula facing the Caribbean Sea, in the administrative department that includes Cap-Haïtien; the resort lies relatively close to Cap-Haïtien but is a separate, privately managed enclave.

• Access restrictions: The site is operated as a private cruise destination and most facilities are available only to cruise passengers or through licensed excursions arranged by cruise operators.
• Activities: Visitors can expect beach coves, watersports and a local craft market; a zipline that crosses a bay is one of the site's signature activities.
