La Malinche National Park protects the volcanic massif of La Malinche (also known as Matlalcueitl) in central Mexico, noted for its high summit and range of mountain ecosystems. The protected area preserves forests, meadows and the slopes of a stratovolcano used for recreation and conservation.

Trail networks and mountain routes are used for day hikes and multi-day treks that lead toward the summit; hikers use the park for acclimatisation and training for higher Mexican peaks. The park is also valued for birdlife and montane flora.

The protected area was designated to conserve the volcanic landscape and its ecosystems and to provide public access for recreation. Management balances visitor access with forest protection.

Geographically the park sits on the border region between the states of Tlaxcala and Puebla in central Mexico, forming a prominent highland landmark within driving distance of regional cities.

  • Summit elevation: The volcano's summit reaches over 4,400 metres above sea level, making it one of the higher peaks in central Mexico and a common acclimatisation climb for mountaineers.
  • Habitats and seasons: Trails cross a range of ecosystems from montane forest to alpine meadows and the mountain commonly carries seasonal snow in winter.
