La Fontaine Park is a major municipal park in the Plateau-Mont-Royal neighbourhood of Montreal, Quebec. It is one of the city’s principal urban green spaces and is widely used for recreation.

The park contains ornamental ponds, broad promenades, extensive lawns and mature trees that form a large open green space within the city. There is an open-air performance area used for summer concerts and cultural events, plus paths for walking and cycling and spaces for informal sports and picnics.

The landscaped grounds date to the 19th century and were developed over time as Montreal expanded, becoming an established public park used for leisure and community gatherings. The site has been adapted through successive improvements to paths, plantings and recreation facilities.

The park sits in the heart of the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough, northeast of downtown Montreal and surrounded by residential streets and neighbourhood amenities. It is easily reached from central Montreal by public transit and on foot from adjacent neighbourhoods.

  • Best season: Best experienced from late spring through early autumn when lawns and tree canopy are at their fullest and outdoor events are active.
  • Winter activities: A maintained outdoor rink and winter paths provide skating and informal winter recreation when temperatures allow.
