Kuwait Towers
Tower Iconic water towers and observation structures in Kuwait City
Kuwait Towers rise on the Corniche with an observation sphere and café; tourists visit for Gulf panoramas, seaside promenades and photographic viewpoints at dusk.
The Kuwait Towers are a group of three landmark towers on the Arabian Gulf shoreline in Kuwait City, notable for their spherical viewing and water-storage elements and modernist design. The tallest tower reaches approximately 187 metres and contains a public observation level and a rotating restaurant.
The ensemble serves both functional roles - water storage and infrastructure - and as a national symbol and visitor attraction, offering panoramic views over Kuwait City and the gulf. The towers are commonly photographed from the coastal Corniche and are prominent on the city skyline at night when illuminated.
Constructed in the 1970s and officially opened in the late 1970s, the towers were widely damaged during the 1990 Iraqi invasion and later restored as part of post-war reconstruction. Since restoration they have operated as both municipal infrastructure and a tourist viewpoint.
The towers stand along the waterfront in central Kuwait City within the Capital Governorate, directly on the Gulf coast and readily visible from the city’s Corniche promenade.
- Restoration history: The complex was damaged during the 1990 Iraqi invasion and subsequently restored; it reopened as a tourist viewpoint and landmark following repairs.
What to See #
- Main tower (observation): The tallest of the three towers rises to about 187 metres and includes a viewing sphere with a public observation deck and a revolving restaurant at an elevated level.
- Secondary towers: The second tower contains water storage used historically for the city's supply and the third, smaller tower houses technical equipment and serves lighting functions.
How to Get to Kuwait Towers #
Kuwait Towers sits on the Kuwait City Corniche along Gulf Road (Arabian Gulf Street). The easiest way to reach it is by taxi or ride‑hailing from central Kuwait City (10-15 minutes); there is limited regular city bus service, so visitors commonly use taxis. From Kuwait International Airport it is roughly 15-20 km by road and about a 20-30 minute drive depending on traffic.
The towers are immediately adjacent to the Corniche promenade, so drop‑off or parking leaves you a very short (a few minutes) walk to the viewing area and visitor entrance.
Tips for Visiting Kuwait Towers #
- Visit late afternoon toward sunset to catch cooler temperatures and the towers' illuminated skyline views - evenings are the most photogenic but also busiest, so arrive at least 30-45 minutes before sunset to secure a good spot on the observation level.
- Enter from the seafront/public side where visitor facilities and the main ticket desk are concentrated; that side gives the best uninterrupted views of the Arabian Gulf and Kuwait City skyline.
- Avoid weekend prime-time (Friday evening) crowds by choosing a weekday visit when queues for the observation sphere and restaurant are significantly shorter.
Best Time to Visit Kuwait Towers #
Best visited in the cooler months (late autumn through early spring) when temperatures are comfortable for walking and viewing the waterfront.
