Kültepe (ancient Kaneš, also Kanesh or Kül Tepe) is an archaeological tell in central Anatolia, in Kayseri Province, important for its Early Bronze Age and Old Assyrian-period remains. The site includes a lower merchant quarter (karum) and an upper citadel mound with long occupation sequences.
Archaeological excavations revealed extensive material culture and a large archive of Old Assyrian cuneiform tablets that document long-distance trade, legal matters and household affairs during the early second millennium BCE. The site is a key reference for studies of Anatolian-Levantine-Assyrian commercial networks.
Kültepe lies in central Anatolia within Kayseri Province; it is the type-site for the karum phenomenon and is accessible from the regional city of Kayseri.

Kültepe (ancient Kanesh) is an archaeological site in Kayseri Province, Turkey, located a short drive outside the city of Kayseri. From Kayseri city centre it is roughly a 20-30 minute drive (on local roads) to the Kültepe area.
Visitors typically travel by car or by local minibuses/dolmuş from Kayseri; the final approach is on rural roads and a brief walk from parking or drop-off to the excavated site.

- Go in spring or autumn for cooler weather and clearer light when walking the excavated lower town (karum) and the mound (höyük) without summer heat.
