Křivoklát Castle

Křivoklát Castle is a medieval Gothic castle in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic and one of the country’s historic royal castles. It is notable for its preserved Gothic structure and its long use as a royal residence, hunting base and later a state prison.

Key on-site features include the medieval palace and great hall, a high keep, restored defensive walls and towers, and museum displays of historic interiors and collections. Visitors use the castle’s towers and battlements for panoramic views and can tour the preserved rooms and exhibitions.

The castle was established in the medieval period and rebuilt and expanded in Gothic style during subsequent centuries; it later underwent restorations in the 19th and 20th centuries to preserve its historic fabric and present it as a museum.
