Kratochvíle is a late Renaissance hunting lodge and small chateau in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic, built as a country retreat for a leading noble family. The building is an example of Italian-influenced Renaissance architecture in Bohemia and is compact in scale.
The site’s characteristic feature is an arcaded courtyard around which reception rooms and service spaces are organised; interiors display period decoration and painted surfaces where preserved. The lodge functions today as a historic house museum with interpretive displays.
Construction took place in the late 16th century as a commission by a Bohemian noble patron; the building’s plan and decoration reflect Italianate design sources adapted for a Central European country house context.
