Krasheninnikov (volcano)

Krasheninnikov is a volcanic complex on the eastern Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia, named after the explorer Stepan Krasheninnikov. The feature comprises volcanic cones within Kamchatka’s active volcanic belt and lies in a remote area of Kamchatka Krai.

The site is of interest for its volcanic morphology and regional geology rather than developed tourism facilities. Visits are typically undertaken by specialists or as part of organized expeditions; there are no regular public transport services to the immediate area.

The volcanoes formed through repeated eruptive activity as part of the Pacific Ring of Fire; they are among many cones and stratovolcanoes that make up Kamchatka’s volcanic landscape. Over time the cones and surrounding terrain have been modified by eruptions, erosion and snow and ice accumulation.

The complex sits on the eastern side of the Kamchatka Peninsula in a largely protected and sparsely settled landscape. Access is from regional settlements in Kamchatka Krai, commonly by long overland routes or by air into remote reserve zones.
