Kozara National Park
Park Forested national park and World War II memorial site
On a forested plateau in northwestern Bosnia, Kozara National Park protects woodlands, hiking routes and the WWII Monument to the Revolution at Mrakovica; visitors use trails for walking, hunting and history visits.
Kozara National Park is a protected area in north-western Bosnia and Herzegovina centred on the Kozara mountain massif. The park preserves mixed beech and conifer woodlands, karst ridges and upland meadows across a compact area.
Trails and forest roads cross the park and give access to viewpoints, memorial sites and picnic areas; the landscape is rolling to moderately steep, with the highest ridges providing wide views over the surrounding lowlands. Wildlife includes typical Central European forest species.
The park lies near the town of Kozarska Dubica and the city of Prijedor in the northwest of the country, roughly north-west of Banja Luka, and is reachable by regional roads from those population centres.
- Park status: The park covers modest woodland and upland terrain established as a national park in the 20th century to protect the Kozara massif and its natural and cultural features.
What to See #
- Mrakovica ridge: Mrakovica and nearby ridgelines provide the park's highest ground and contain memorial sites and viewpoints over the surrounding plains and rivers.
