Kourou Travel Guide
City City in French Guiana, near the coast
Passengers come for space launches at the Guiana Space Centre, and to board small boats to Îles du Salut, the notorious prison islands. Kourou’s palm-backed beaches, mangrove canoeing, and Creole seafood make it a practical base for Atlantic and rainforest excursions.
Why Visit Kourou? #
Kourou draws visitors for its unusual mix of tropical coast and high-tech activity. The Guiana Space Centre is the area’s standout attraction, offering rocket-launch viewing that contrasts with boat trips to the nearby Îles du Salut and former penal colonies. Beaches along the Kourou River, creole seafood and beachfront bars give a relaxed counterpoint to launches and jungle excursions inland.
